I Got Carded!

Last night my mom and I went to the casino. We've been to this particular casino numerous times and I was never asked for my ID.  So when the guy at the door asked me for my ID, I was a bit taken aback. First I thought he was joking. I half expected him ask if my mom and I were sisters.  He wasn't kidding. I wasn't sure if I should be flattered or what. You see, I'm 46 years old. Last time I got carded was probably about 15 years ago. Even my mom laughed when the guy asked for my ID.

But it's ok. I wasn't mad at the guy. He was just doing his job. Plus, in the perfect circumstances I do look younger than I am. For one thing I'm short about 5'1.  The lighting  in the casino was kind of dark so that probably helped. And I had my hair was up in a clip so all my gray hair were hidden.  It could happen to anyone cause I thought the guy carding me was about my age but after he checked my ID he said I was older than him. Again, that lighting wasn't that great. Plus, the guy was big burly guy with receding hair.

When my cousins and I were younger, it used to annoy them I got carded all the time and they didn't because I'm 3 to 4 years older than them. People would think they were my mom or aunt.  They were much much taller than me so that adds about 10 years to your age. I got carded through out my 20s and most of 30s. At the time I thought it was annoying to get carded everywhere, even at the movie theater.

As the years went by, I noticed I got carded less often in my late 30s. I guess I kind of missed it. Not being carded but people thinking I'm much younger than I am. It's one of life's ironies. When I was younger I wanted to be older. Now that I'm older, I still don't want to be a kid but I wish I could still keep that youthful glow.

I hope I can still fool people when I enter into the next decade of my life.

  1. Some places card everyone, no matter how old they are whether its 16, 46, or 86. I think it's a law to do it that way in some states. But it doesn't sound like that where you are. It sounds like you do have that youthful glow or you wouldn't have gotten carded.
